Our last day at Yellowstone consisted of breaking down camp early and then heading off to see Old Faithful. On our way up, we passed the Grand Prismatic Spring, which continually spews volumes of boiling water from its caldron into the Firehole River nearby.
While waiting at Old Faithful for it to erupt, we could see Grand Geyser spouting off in the distance -- another geyser that's eminently predictable but on a eight-and-a-half hour schedule.
Right on time (92 minutes after the last eruption, to be exact), Old Faithful erupted.
After our culminating trip to Old Faithful, it was time to say goodbye to Yellowstone. We took the scenic route to Salt Lake City through Grand Teton National Park. In comparison to Yellowstone's breadth of different experiences, Grand Teton is simple: a single mountain range, set against a large lake. However, the results are spectacular. See for yourself:
The simple, quiet majesty of Grand Teton was a world away from the frenzy and congestion (even in the off-season) of Yellowstone, even though they are connected by a roadway of just a few miles.
Tomorrow, it's off to Southern Utah!
