After a few weeks of preparation, six hours of packing with the help of three professional movers, and one large moving van, the contents of our Cambridge apartment was carted off to California.
Sadly, this picture of our worldy possessions lined up on the sidewalk was taken about only half-way through the packing process.
After staring at each other in our empty apartment for a few minutes, we headed out to the North End for our "Last Supper". We chose Giacomo's across from Mike's Pastry on Hanover Street for this momentous occasion. The line was short (only 10 people in front of us) and the Giacomo sauce was superb as usual. After dinner we walked down to the Long Wharf to take a picture next to the Atlantic Ocean, and the most Eastern point of our road trip.
We took the T one last time, finished packing up the car, and bid adieu to our home of four years. This was our first home together, and it will always have a special place in our hearts, even though it was the size of a sardine can. I won't miss washing all of our dishes by hand, or the drunk people that would stumble home loudly on Friday nights through the entrance of our building which was right next to us. But I will miss our apartment's perpetual 80 degree temperature year-round including the dead of winter (and heat was included in our rent!), I will miss riding the T (only the Red line though- the other lines were ghetto), and most of all I will miss my friends.
We drove to Danbury, CT and stayed there for the night. On Friday we arrived in Pittsburgh around dinner time. It's nice to be somewhere familiar- it feels safe here.
Today on Saturday we met up with our friend Ted at his apartment in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. We drove to the house he is in the process of buying with his wife, and peered through the windows. Luckily nobody called the cops on us! The house looks gorgeous and perfect for them. We couldn't be happier for our friends!
